URIBE OPEN: MEÑAKA BIRDWATCHING OUTING

On Sunday the 26th September BBT took on the task of leading a walk in Meñaka to identify local birds as part of the programme of activities Uribe Open organised by Jata-Ondo to encourage local tourism.

The young ornithologist from Mungia, Aitor Urrutia, was given the task of guiding the 20-strong group and was supported by a couple of our supporters, Xabier and Iñigo. Once again we were blessed with lovely weather and the enthusiastic group enjoyed a pleasant walk in which Aitor informed them of the situation of local birds and helped them to identify them. Unfortunately not many were seen or heard but this didn`t seem to discourage the group who enjoyed both the walk and Aitor`s explanations.

And as with the other two outings the morning finished off nicely with a snack of local, ecological products prepared by Cris. Once again thanks to everyone who took part and hopefully we will be able to repeat the experience next spring. And as Ariitz Gamboa says on the Biba Zuek programme on ETB 1, “Stay in contact with the earth and hold on to the land.”
