In June members of the Biosfera environmental group in BBT led four nature outings organized by the local economic development group, Jata-Ondo. One of the activities of Jata Ondo has been to develop a more local, sustainable tourism which aims to show people the less well-known towns and villages. The Eko-Plan outings that were organized were similar to the ones that we did in September and October last year, the difference being that these late spring outings were not as well attended. One of the factors was the weather but that doesn`t explain everything. The cost of the outings was merely a euro so perhaps it wasn`t the right time of year, with early spring being better for three of the outings. As for the outings themselves, the first was in Loiu and the subject was sustainable management of our parks and green spaces. The following day was a walk in Meñaka to discover local birds and find out about the problems they face. The following weekend was supposed to be an outing in Arrieta to discover local butterflies but the bad weather put paid to that. However, the couple of people who turned up were informed about what butterflies they could expect to see in Bizkaia and their main characteristics. Finally, it was the turn of Urduliz where the weather held out just enough for the family that turned up to enjoy an interesting excursion where we ended up seeing many more flowers than we had originally expected. All the participants in the four outings were given photocopies of the local flowers, birds and butterflies and hopefully we can repeat the same outings next year. Thanks to all of you who attended this year and hopefully we will see all of you again in some future event.
