The Sacin urban bird
The Sacin urban bird survey, organized by the SEO, requires us to do the survey twice in the winter. We did the first one in December and today we did the second one on January 24th. Even though the weather wasn’t very kind to us, ten of us turned up.
We saw a total of twenty-seven different species but today’s star has been the bullfinch (Pyrrhula pyrrhula). What a beauty! And like many other birds it loves eating the berries of the wild privet (Ligustrum vulgare), and this gives us a chance to see this beautiful bird up close.
Although we are in the middle of winter, with the first rays of the sun, some birds have started to sing. It’s still early but from now on there will be more and more singing, and in early spring we will do our next bird survey in Mungia. Meanwhile, you can use the SEO website to get to know the most common birds better, and learn their songs. Today we heard the thrush singing and here we can listen to its song again. Thanks to everyone who participated today and especially to Josean for sharing his knowledge and experience with us. We look forward to meeting up again at the end of March!
