The proposed “Electric Motorway” of High-Voltage Electricity Lines in Gatika
The project to connect Gatika with a an “electric motorway” of high-voltage cables across land and under the ocean-bed to order to bring energy from France has met strong opposition from the inhabitants of Gatika where the main transformer station will be.
BBT is also actively against this project and BBT president, Eduardo Urturi, in a forum organized in Mungia on 17th November spoke about the negative aspects of the project and underlined the need to use local, sustainable and renewable energy sources. Experts from various other institutions spoke against the necessity for such a giant project.
The following weekend, in an ac act facilitated by Podemos, members of the Gatika platform were also in Brussels to explain in the European parliament the reasons why they are opposed to this project.
