For the first time in three years Ekologistak Martxan in Bizkaia was able to have members of EM attending the annual assembly. The first part of the assembly was dedicated to a debate on whether or not EM should support a moratorium on renewable energy projects. The multinationals that historically continued to make profits using fossil fuels are the same ones that are rubbing their hands as Europe makes money available for them as part of its new Green Deal. The debate was animated online by Daniel Lopez in Cadiz and by Iñaki Barcena in the room and there was a general agreement that rather than making a general call for a moratorium the particular situation of each territory should be given due consideration.
After a coffee break the second part of the assembly was dedicated to approval of the accounts, information of the various commissions and a look at the general situation of EM. The last years have been difficult years and EM is confident that this year Bizizaleak will be able to have a txosna when the Aste Nagusia returns to Bilbo this summer.
BBT has been part of EM for a few years in much the same way as the ecological group Sagarrak in Basauri which keeps its own identity as a group. It is often hard enough to find time to carry out our own projects but BBT is determined to maintain its links with EM and collaborate as much as possible with EM and other environmental groups in Bizkaia.
