It has now become a tradition for many people from the local area to take part in the annual Saint Sylvester race in Bakio and a good tradition it is too. Many surfers from near and far enjoyed the waves and many others went for mountain walks thanks to the unusually good weather. I say “unusually” but it’s become much more usual to have “good” weather on the 31st December and that’s why every Saint Sylvester members of BBT walk from Eneperi to the centre of Bakio and count the number of plants in flower as part of an initiative by Botanika Sestao and Lurgaia to measure the effects of climate change. It’s also a wonderful opportunity to have a lovely walk in the best of company with a backdrop of some of the most beautiful scenery in Bizkaia. For the record we saw around 50 species in flower this year. And to celebrate BBT`s 10th anniversary members of the BBT Consumer group welcomed us with a delicious, well-earned snack! Now, isn`t that a great way of saying farewell to 2022?
