The Butroi Bizirik Transition project saw the light of day ten years ago following an inspiring presentation of the transition ideals as a response to the oil peak and the looming climate crisis. It is true to say that ten years later the original enthusiasm surrounding the project has dissipated somewhat and many of the people who were present in our movement are no longer actively involved. It`s also true to say that our group has now limited contact with the transition movement, not for any discrepancies with the movement itself, but rather due to the fact that we have so little time to coordinate with the actual movement. However, it`s also true to say that the BBT project has built on the original enthusiasm to build a credible movement for social transformation in the Uribe-Butroe area. We have developed various lines of intervention and have linked up with many like-minded groups to promote food sovereignty, local, renewable and sustainable energy, ethical finance and consumerism, and protection of our environment and its biodiversity.
Over the years people have come and people have left and sadly some of our members have passed away. But BBT is still here, a viable project which has strengthened over the past ten years and we felt that it was only right that we celebrate these ten years. And so it was that on 19th November around 80 of us, past and present members, met up in Anaitasuna txokoa to exchange stories, re-live memories and celebrate these last ten years around a table enjoying a lovely meal prepared by a group of enthusiastic volunteers. It was an important reunion but not the only one as an organisational committee is already preparing a spring celebratory event which promises to be even bigger!!!
