EUSKARALDIA
Euskaraldia (11 day campaign in favour of the Basque language) is over but our position in favour of the Basque language goes on. It`s true that it`s not always easy to live in Basque, and often we continue to speak in Spanish even of the person we are speaking to is a Basque speaker or is a Belarri Prest (someone who is keen to be spoken to in Basque even though his/her Basque is limited).
There are many linguistic realities in our group but we are very clear about our position in favour of the Basque language. Our area is a mainly Basque-speaking area but our language is still in a precarious situation because, even though more and more people know Basque less and less basque can be heard in the street.
So although the euskaraldia is over we must make good use of the push the campaign has given and let`s not forget that in April the Korrika (24-hour week-long relay race in favour of the basque language) will be here! So, let`s go on being an Aho Bizi (active Basque speaker) or Belarri Prest!!!
