On Sunday 23rd April Butroi Bizirik Trantsizioan celebrated Earth day for the second year in Mungia. It was a beautiful sunny day and we had an early start at 09:00 for the urban bird walk. It was very interesting and we heard many different bird songs. Thanks especially to Joxean Isasi who gave lots of information on the various birds.
Next, at 11:00 Belen Gonzalez tested the quality of the water in the river with some eager volunteers. Like last year it was positive and in general the river was clean although we took a few things from the river, including a chair! After that, David and Joxerra showed us how to make traps to catch Asian wasps and then kids with the help of their parents made some more and took great fun in putting them in some of the trees in the park.
The next activity was the vertical garden. Ana Lopez showed us how to do this using a couple of palets and we used flowers that are beneficial for bees, butterflies and other pollinators. We put the two vertical gardens outside the old abandoned petrol station which is still there and nobody seems to be doing anything about.
To end a perfect morning we enjoyed the “talos” (corn pancakes) prepared by Xabier, Edu and Joakin. Thanks to everyone who helped organize this now annual event and to everybody who took part, especially to the children. You are our future!!!
