As part of the celebrations of its 10th anniversary, Butroi Bizirik Trantsizioan Elkartea invited the local nature WhatsApp group, Saramus Natura Taldea, to exhibit photographs of the birds that can be observed in the Uribe-Butroe region. Saramus Natura Taldea is a group open to anyone who loves nature and wants to know what can be seen in the local environment and in the Basque Country in general. Thanks to the fact that all the contributions are made in Basque, the group is also an «Arigune» (a space for the use of Basque in peace) and this is respected by the more than 45 members regardless of their level of Basque.
Most of the photos in the exhibition were photos of the Uribe-Butroe environment that have been sent to the WhatsApp group. Almost all the photographs in the exhibition were taken by five nature lovers: Iñigo Elortegi, Mikel Etxegarai, Josean Isasi, Aitor Urrutia and Julen Santacristina.
On Saturday November 19, three of these photographers were present in Torrebillela to talk about their photos and the birds in the area.
It must be said that although many of the photos were of impressive quality, the main reason for the exhibition was to show people the enormous diversity of bird life in our area, although unfortunately most of the birds that can be seen are in decline due to the usual problems of habitat loss, changes in agricultural methods and climate change.
To accompany the exhibition there was a pedagogical activity designed to make the exhibition more interesting for the children and to provide information about some of the birds in the exhibition.
