On Saturday morning some members and friends of BBT made some bird-boxes which they then put up in trees in the centre of Bakio. The action was part of the activities organized by Haria Elkartea and Bakio Town-Hall as part of Tree Day in which members of Haria Elkartea put up a large number of native trees in different parts of Bakio. As well as planting the trees and making bird-boxes, the names of some of the wild flowers in the area were written with chalk, an idea that has been very much a part of the Sauvages de ma Rue project in France and the More than Weeds project in England. The idea is that by naming the flowers value is given to them even if they are later cut along with the grass. Hopefully people will come to realize that wild flowers in towns add colour and are far more useful to our pollinators than the flowers planted in towns by the town-hall gardens department. Finally, BBT would like to thank everyone who took part in the bird-box project and we hope to be able to repeat it next year with the participation of local kids.
