AURRESKU DANCE OF HONOUR EUCALIPTUS

On Saturday, 24th November, the environmental umbrella group Kolore Guztietako Basoak, of which BBT is a member, organized a festive protest day in Gernika. At 11:00 the participants, which included a dozen members of BBT, started out from Gernika train station accompanied to the music of “trikitixa” (Basque accordion) and slowly made their way to the enormous eucalyptus tree that stands in Gernika`s Peace Park, just behind the old “Tree of Gernika”. There, a member of KGB made a short speech calling of a new forestry policy based on planting native trees before going on to do a parody “Aurresku” (Basque dance of honour) in front of the eucalyptus tree.

The day ended with a meal prepared by the eco-catering group, “Ortutik Ahora” in Astra, the former arms factory that has been turned into an alternative self-governing civic and cultural centre.
