From the 24th September to the 3rd October the Basque Government organized the second edition of Asteklima to increase the population`s awareness of the issue of Climate Change. In our area the town-halls of Arrieta, Bakio, Errigoiti, Gamiz-Fika and Laukiz are to be congratulated for availing of the opportunity to organize events connected with climate change. In the case of Errigoiti the town-hall invited groups in the village to take part in organizing events and ended up successfully organizing a number of events. Hopefully the town-halls which didn`t organize events will take note and be more pro-active next year.
Today the 24th October is the International Day of Climate Action and as of today In the warm-up to COP 26 EITB is broadcasting a number of documentaries and programmes called Ekin_Kima to inform people of what climate change will mean. And it is very clear that Climate Change will be very present in the media in the days up to and during COP 26. It is perhaps a good moment to mention En Plan Planeta, the programme on Twitch TV which looks at the issues around Climate Change and sustainability in general and which is particularly aimed at a young audience of teenagers and young adults. There are regular guests such as Leyre Rebollo and Alberto Vizcaíno, the author of Contenedor Amarillo S.A, whose book is available in the BBT library. Anyone can make comments on the chat and Alfonso Peña does a good job in presenting and coordinating the programme.
As for BBT, its Climate Group together with Mungia Gazte Asanblada has invited the environmental group, Sukar Horia, to give a talk entitled Krisi Ekologikoa eta Klase Borroka at 18:30 on Friday 29th October in Errota Gaztetxea, a talk which we are sure will leave no-one indifferent. See you there!
