It seems now that every day there are new records in the electricity prices. Nothing seems to be able to control. The government in Madrid says that it is doing its best to stop these price increases which only benefit the interests while the president of Iberdrola, Ignacio Galán, blames the government for wanting to make money for the Treasury. We expect a lot from a progressive government but when we see members of the PSOE like Antonio Miguel Carmona taking up the post of vice-president of Iberdrola can we really expect changes?
In the meantime Ekologistak Martxan and The Association of Neighbour Groups of Bilbao have organized a demonstration in Bilbo on 7th October at 19:00 starting out symbolically from Euskadi Square beside the Iberdrola Tower to denounce the dramatic increase in the electricity prices which affect the most vulnerable people in our society and to call for the nationalization of this important economic sector. The following day, the 8th October, various organizations, town-halls and individuals have asked people to take part in a protest outside Iberdrola Tower from 11:30 to 12:00 and in the evening from 22:00 to 22:30 to turn all their electrical apparatuses and bang their saucepans from their balconies as part of a noisy protest. BBT calls on its members and sympathizers to support all these mobilizations in protest at this excessive increase in electricity prices and if anybody still isn’t a member of the Goiener cooperative we ask them to consider why they continue to have their electricity supplied by the big electricity oligarchies when at least in Goiener we have an alternative which guarantees that the electricity that we use is from renewable sources as well as being a cooperative that we have a say in.
