Emerando Wood

Within the framework of the collaboration established between Lurgaia and BBT for the planting and conservation of the Native Forest, on June 1 members of both groups visited land owned by BBT member Mikel Sarasola in the district of Emerando, Mungia to look into the possibilities of planting a native wood there.

The soil conditions are very suitable, mainly for the planting of chestnut trees, birch and some species of willow, so we started to plan the actions required to prepare the planting of about 350 saplings next winter, with the help of volunteers from BBT and Lurgaia.

It is worth noting that  on this flat and humid area of land we found quite a few specimens of an unusual carnivorous plant, as well as another in danger of extinction, which indicates very little human intervention in that area and a suitable area for increasing the numbers of those rare plants.
