Stop Cortaderia in Mungia
On Saturday 5th September in Mungia members of BBT and other community groups will symbolically cut off the Pampa (Cortaderia selloana) feathers which contain the seeds that help this invasive South American plant to spread. Now is a good time to take action and remove feathers and the small plants that grow so easily here and take the space of native species.
They aren’t the only invasive species of course. There is an unfortunately growing and seemingly endless list of invasive species as a consequence of our globalized world. Some of these species, like the Australian eucalyptus tree have even been and continue to be encouraged by the local provincial government!! What is clear is that not enough is being done to take measures to eradicate invasive species and help improve our native biodiversity.
Consequently BBT is calling on our local town-halls to adopt a series of measures to ensure a better management of green spaces in our towns. You can click on the following link to see what these measures consist of. If you feel that there is something that needs to be included on this list please let us know!
