WHAT TO DO WHEN WE FIND A WOUNDED WILD ANIMAL.
An Injured Barn-Owl
A week or so ago the son of one of our members saved the life of a barn-owl. It was no easy thing to do as it was night and he had to park on the roadside. In fact, he even had to get into the river in order to save him so that meant off with his socks, shoes and even trousers! What a sight it must have been!. But he finally managed to save it, put it in a dark box and the next day he took it to the recovery centre in Gorliz. Now he has to wait and see if it makes a full recovery but there are reasons to be optimistic. The barn-owl is SEO`s Bird of the Year and although the barn-owl is still fairly common here, that`s not the case in most parts of Europe where it`s in decline mainly due to intensification in agricultural methods..
This also gives an opportunity to remind people what they should do if they find an injured animal. You should phone the Base Gorria (Animal Recovery Centre) at 944 465 297 or take it directly to the centre in Gorliz. there`s even a couple of cages there where you can leave it if no-one`s around. It`s also important to report any wild dead mammal that you see as there`s the possibility that it might have died as a result of a disease and the centre in Gorliz really needs to know that.
Finally, take your foot off the gas and slow down!!!
