AURRESKU DANCE OF HONOUR EUCALIPTUS
On 23rd November to coincide with Native Wood Day and to celebrate that on 24th November the umbrella group Kolore Guztietako Basoak working to recover the native woods and to end the intensive forestry model (Multi-Colour Forests) has organized a day of reflection and satire. The event will be held in Gernika and the objective is to show the risks that the eucalyptus is responsible for. That species from another continent is causing serious damage to the local environment, especially due to the fact that many areas in Bizkaia have seen thousands of hectares covered with these monoculture forest plantations.
In this “celebration” there will be a dance “in honour of” the Gernika eucalyptus tree, a tree which is being planted everywhere and seems to be replacing the pine-tree. Of course there will be no honour attached to this dance and the dancers will be dressed in black. After the dance, the act will continue until lunch-time with members of the Kolore Guztietako Basoak group, in which we are actively involved, handing out leaflets to people in the street in a festive manner. The posterior lunch, prepared by the eco-catering group Ahotik Ortura will be in Astra.
If you want to eat you should send an email to koloreguztietakobasoak@gmail.com by 20th November.
Hoping to see you there!
