All together for Butron river
For this Sunday, November 4, the municipality of Mungia together with BBT organized an environmental day with the objective of cleaning a section of the Butrón River.
Around 11 in the morning, families and friends were present, all equipped with their katiuskas and eager to do this work. While we were collecting the waste that we found on the road Iñigo Zuberogoitia told us about the importance of the conservation of the riverbank forests and the diversity of species that inhabit this river, highlighting the European mink as one of the species that are in danger of extinction. To rest a little from this hard work, Itziar Ateka and Belén González encouraged the children to be scientists for a day analyzing the quality of the river water.
We collected a large amount of waste, among which most plastics (bottles, wrappers, bricks, bags, boxes), cigarette butts, aluminum cans and unusual things like parts of a vacuum cleaner. Although it is sad the presence of this waste on the river bank and the path that takes us there, the children were very enthusiastic collecting as much as possible to make a sculpture with them, but we could not specify as it passed the very fast weather and the hunger already hurried; is pending for the next exit, although the ideal would be that we can not do it for lack of waste … to see what the future holds!
We want to thank all those who participated, especially parents who want to transmit to their children values of responsibility and solidarity, committing themselves actively to their environment. We were delighted to meet and work together for the same cause.
