ENVIRONMENT WEEK IN MUNGIA
June 5th is World Environment Day and over the last few years Mungia has been organizing various events to celebrate it. Last year BBT helped to organize an outing to get to know what the local butterflies are. This year we proposed a bicycle ride round Mungia to get to know what the local birds are but unfortunately very few paople turned up, maybe because it was at 09:00am!!! Nevertheless. the results will be useful for SEO`s Sacre Urbano programme, in which ever year in spring a survey is carried out to find out what the tendencies of the bird population in the towns are.
After the bird survey our idea was to test the quality of the water in the river as part of the Ibaialde programme and then clean the banks but no-one turned up so we agreed to organize it again in July. However, what was successful was the Fair Trade Hot Chocolate that we preparedon Friday evening. As well as that, Txomin specially prepared some biscuits and slices of bread for dipping into the chocolate. Delicious and surely not the last time that we do that! Thanks also to the Gaztetxea for lending us pots and glasses for this event!
Finally, congratulations to Bentades Ikastetxea on becoming a Green Flag School on Environment Day. Mungia now has three sustainable schools. That`s not bad for a small town!!!
