On Saturday 31st December, the last day of the year, 15 of us, including a family of three from Mallorca, took part in a walk in Bakio to observe early flowering of flowers. This is the second year that the Botanic Section of the Sestao Science Association together with Lurgaia has organized this event. The idea is to observe what is flowering at this time of year as it is clear that flowers are flowering earlier than ever due to the effects of climate change.
But the walk gave everyone an opportunity to socialize and learn something about the various flowers so it was both educational and recreational. In the evening we all went round a few local bars before going off to celebrate the New Year with family and friends.
Next 31st December we will do the same as the walk needs to be done for at least 5 years in a row to observe any significant changes.
