To celebrate World Wetlands Day BBT, Biosfera organized an excursion to Santoña, in Cantabria to see coastal birds. Although the weather forecast wasn`t great, it didn`t rain at all in the morning and there wasn`t much wind so there were perfect conditions for the group of 13 to watch the birds.
We started off near the monastery of Cicero where we could admire the first birds (and flowers) before going to the nearby quarry where we had the opportunity of seeing a peregrine falcon. It was near that a friend, Gabi, came to see us and told us that there was an American curlew not far away so we went to see it. then it was off to a point near the port where we saw a Sandwich tern and then later in the port itself we saw a shag.
Next, we ate in a very good restaurant in Colindres, El Puerto, before finishing the day with a short walk round Colindres port before the rain came on. All in all, it was a lovely day and everybody had a really nice time.
